Just Friends
NAMI Mercer's two social support programs are mergining into one group: Just Friends, a peer-led group for adults (18+) who are coping with mental health challenges.
These groups offer participants opportunities to engage in fun activities and connect with others who share their life experiences. These gatherings reduce social isolation, enhance interpersonal skills, and promote well-being.
Our Just Friends program is unique to NAMI Mercer, beginning in 1990 by parents concerned about the loneliness experienced by their adult children affected by mental illness. The group is predicated on the belief that good times, acceptance, camaraderie, and delving into the joy of living are foundational to better health and an overall better quality of life.
The name of the group was selected by the participants, ranging from young adults to seniors citizens. The emphasis on friendship is intended to proclaim publicly, “We are just people like everyone else, looking to connect with others and celebrate good times.” Through the generosity of our donors, NAMI Mercer underwrites the costs associated with at least one of these social events for each group per month.
If you are interested in joining Just Friends, contact NAMI Mercer to attend the next “Meet and Greet” event. Participation in a "Meet and Greet," along with a current NAMI Mercer membership are prerequisites to becoming part of our
support groups.
