Harvest of Hope 2025
17th ANNUAL WELLNESS CONFERENCE
September 27, 2025
The Conference Center at Mercer
MCCC West Windsor Campus
Cory Richards is a world-renowned National Geographic photographer, professional athlete, mountaineer, best-selling author of The Color of Everything and BIPOLAR, and mental health advocate. He has spent his life pushing the boundaries of human potential—both in the extreme landscapes of our planet and in the deeply personal journey of self-discovery and transformation.
Cory’s career has taken him to the most remote corners of the Earth, from summiting Everest without supplemental oxygen and the 26,362-foot Gasherbrum II in winter. His climbing has earned him global recognition, including being named “National Geographic Adventurer of the Year.” His contribution as a photographer, however, extends far beyond documenting adventure. His subjects span from climate change to conflict to sociology and archeology, to disappearing cultures and conservation. To date, he has photographed 12 feature assignments for National Geographic.
Beyond his remarkable achievements, Cory’s most profound journey has been navigating the depths of his own struggles with mental health, including PTSD, addiction, and bipolar disorder. Much of Cory’s life has been defined by this journey about which he speaks openly and honestly, laying bare the hidden struggles that so many face in silence and solitude. As a high school dropout at 14, his life has followed an irregular arch that has lent itself well to exploring the balance of high achievement and struggles with mental health.
Having survived a near-fatal avalanche and his ongoing battles with inner turmoil, Cory has transformed his personal experiences into a guiding philosophy of adaptation by reframing resilience, not as an act of holding on, but of letting go. Cory’s raw and authentic storytelling—through photography, writing, and speaking—has inspired thousands to redefine their limits, embrace discomfort, and unlock the impossible.
A trusted voice in behavior change, personal growth, and leadership development, Cory works with individuals and organizations to break through barriers, embrace vulnerability, and create meaningful transformation.

Compelling Conversations
Conference attendees will have the opportunity to engage in Compelling Conversations, a NAMI Mercer anti-stigma program developed to normalize conversations about mental health and challenge negative, discriminatory perceptions of mental illness. The program creates safe space for those with "lived experience" (called “communicators”) to engage in open, honest dialogue about a variety of mental health topics with those who are interested in learning and understanding "more." The intimate, small group setting facilitates conversations intended to be personal and confidential.
